[Emery gazes at Zel in return, letting them have a moment of prolonged eye contact. (Though he blinks occasionally, so it's not an outright stare at least?) As he'd told Zel, his eyes are a different color from usual; instead of the normal blue-green color, they're a very dark grey, bordering on black. His eyelashes have also darkened to match the rest of his hair, which makes them stand out more than usual.
While Zel examines Emery, Emery will be taking advantage of the opportunity to quietly admire Zelgadis in return. He quite likes Zel's eyes or eye anyway since the other one's generally hard to see and the stones that line them make for a pretty effect. He wonders if Zel would be offended if Emery told him that.
He also wonders if Zel got his eye color from one of his parents and if so, which one. No point in asking since Zel undoubtedly doesn't know. If he looks for it, Emery can see a bit of a resemblance to Rezo- Emery's never met the man but he's seen paintings and a relief of the Great Sage before.
But Zel's much nicer looking and Emery doesn't think that's entirely his own bias. Rezo always had an aloof, arrogant look in his depictions. But Emery's seen Zel smile, and grumble, and cry, and just generally look more human despite the stone skin.]
