he brings a hand to his face, pressing the heel against an eye. he'd had consolation validated ('is this okay?' 'it is alright.'), then something extraordinary tied to feelings he'd had knotted in the back of his mind ignited and...just as quickly stamped down to embers. or some attempt to stamp them down.
