They turn a corner, walk through an alley between the laundromat and a building with peeling siding, and then they're out on the main street. It's actually a fairly busy part of the morning they've chosen to come out; it's past the peak of morning rush hour, but there's still plenty of people traversing the streets, getting coffee, etc.
